Day 15 Lake Sylvia

We awoke to see where we really are having tied up in the dark. This is really a beautiful Lake surrounded by gorgeous homes and packed with boats. Even though Fort Lauderdale is such a big seaport and such a big recreational boating area there is a tremendous shortage a marina slips available and we are not going to be able to get into a Marina at all. Fortunately this is a great place to be. It's a beautiful Lake and by taking the dinghy under a few low bridges and up a few canals we were able to access a waterfront restaurant called the Southport Raw Bar. They provide free dinghy dockage if you eat at the restaurant and so of course we ate there and had a delicious seafood meal for lunch. We were then able to walk to a grocery store, a hardware store, a department store, a barber shop-just about any and every thing we needed. It's just such a convenience to be able to do that using just the dinghy and not having to use Ubers. We also have been very fortunate to have met a couple on a 39 ft Lagoon catamaran that we had actually seen in Charleston. I wish I could tell you the name but I can't as it's a very unusual Hawaiian phrase that apparently means the best. They kept the same name and that's how we recognize the boat. But they are very interesting couple who sold everything, bought the boat at the Cooper River marina, and moved on the boat about a year ago. They have been gradually working their way south since. They have been here in Lake Sylvia for a while and have been an extremely helpful source to get us started finding our way around the Lake Sylvia and Fort Lauderdale area. I have been having some problems with one of my refrigerators and Wayne was generous enough to come over and help me troubleshoot it. I think we may have found the problem however getting the part is going to be an issue. We have once again taken a good look at the offshore weather and realize that it's probably going to be Saturday before we can head on the last leg of our journey that actually takes us into the Florida Keys. We were able in addition to working on the refrigerator to replace the wind vane at the top of the mast. I had consulted the manufacturer and have had the part shipped to St Augustine. We were just waiting for a calm Anchorage and a relatively windless day so I could go up the mast and replace it. Florence is a real trooper because she had to crank me up once to remove the old one and then again to replace the new one. She did a great job. We have found this a rather blustery but very enjoyable Anchorage but are still looking forward to finally finish in the last leg of our journey and arriving in the Florida keys.
