First day begins with sailing south

New Cross!

First day of the extended cruise South to the Florida keys. With a strong breeze 20-25 knots from the southwest and 4 to 5 ft seas, we left the dock and headed to North Edisto by way of Atlantic ocean. Ben and I raised the sails and didn't leave a reef because the winds were diminishing. We had a good trip for the 6 hours it took us to arrive at South Creek. It was bumpy and the waves were rather large but about 5 seconds apart. So it took some expert maneuvering to go over the waves and make forward progress of about 5 kt.. The wind subsided in the evening as often they do. I was glad because there isn't much shelter from a strong South breeze at this anchorage. Still it is my favorite anchorage near Charleston. The area is full of interesting sealife and a long beach to enjoy. We normally swim but the water is only 64 degrees now. We had hot showers and then pot roast for dinner. The stars were beautiful and all of this added to the lure of what this trip's experiences could be.
