Third day of the 2023 Cruise
We decided to take the ICW due to high wave forecast. We thought that the Isle of Hope would be a nice place to visit. The waterway at the end of Daufuskie is really shallow. The markers are deceiving. At the curve of the river the Sandbar extends way out then the next stretch of waterway is very shallow. There are red and green markers very close together. We ran the ground briefly for 5 minutes when we veered closer to the bank. On to Thunderbolt for fuel and water.. $124 at $4.76. They had us standoff for 20 minutes so we were there probably an hour. We pulled up to the Isle of Hope at 3:30. It's a great Marina and a wonderful little town. We took the funny old courtesy car to the historic Wormsloe Plantation 3 minutes away. We walked the trails and watched the biography of John Noble at the museum.. It is a state park. All the azaleas were in bloom. The Grand oaks were covered with moss. There were beautiful homes on the lane next to the marina. The vista was beautiful. We walked an hour and a half. There's great food at the restaurant in Sandfly called Driftaway. I had the parmesan grouper and Ben had some delicious fried shrimp in a unique batter.
